Lawmakers Join Fight for Tobacco Rights

Two Florida Senators are joining the fight to preserve tobacco rights in the United States.

Senators Bill Nelson (D-FL) and Marco Rubio (R-FL) have introduced a bill which, if passed, would remove the Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) jurisdiction over the cigar industry.

The “Traditional Cigar Manufacturing and Small Business Jobs Preservation Act” would ensure a 2009 measure signed by President Obama, which grants the FDA full regulatory control over tobacco products, would not include cigars.

That bill currently does not include cigars, but lawmakers are working to prevent cigars from ever being included in the bill.
