Officials in New Zealand have made the first move toward their goal of a tobacco-free country, by deciding to increase tobacco taxes 40 percent over the next four years. Lawmakers say they hope for an entirely smoke-free country by 2025.
I am always wary of any tax hike implemented in the name of health. New Zealand’s pipe dreams aside, there will never be a truly smoke-free country, and the maniac lawmakers there know it. They are simply seeking a near-guaranteed way to get more money into their pocketbooks.
New Zealand hopes to “pave the way” for other countries to implement the same type of sweeping ban. Instead, they will soon find that this type of asinine stunt will only turn their country into a powder keg of criminal activity and rampant violence, fueled by shady black market tactics.
