Turns out the Big Easy is not so big on tobacco.
Misguided lawmakers in New Orleans — the city known for its laid-back attitude —have made the narrow and cowardly decision to enact a sweeping ban on tobacco use in public, enclosed spaces.
Under the new ban, smoking will be outlawed anywhere inside — including bars, casinos, restaurants, and hotels, as well as correctional facilities and school grounds. The psychotics on the City Council have hinted that they may seek to widen the ban in the coming years.
Ironically, New Orleans is the site of this year’s International Premium Cigar and Pipe Retailers (IPCPR) trade show. I hope event organizers will reconsider this venue, and patrons will steer clear from this latest attack on a still legal activity.
