Takin’ it out on Tabaccy

Governments have long held a love/hate relationship with tobacco. Lawmakers pander to their constituents by vilifying the “devil’s weed.” But a lot of people still smoke, so…

Enter the psychotic lawmakers in Oregon, who are considering removing the cigar tax cap currently in place there. Supporters say the move could raise $5 million per year in revenues. Retailers, meanwhile, say their customers will simply buy online to avoid the inflated prices higher taxes would bring.

There are no winners in the War on Tobacco, only misguided policy-making bullies whose latest victims are the thousands of law-abiding, tax-paying citizens merely exercising their still legal right to enjoy tobacco.
