World’s Oldest Known Cigars Find Home in Tampa

Way back in 1857 the SS Central America sank to the bottom of the Atlantic ocean. The ship had encountered a hurricane off the coast of Charleston, South Carolina. More than 425 passengers and crew members lost their lives.

Among the cargo were tons of gold, items meant for trade, and several boxes of cigars. The shipwreck was found in the early 1990s. The cigars and paraphernalia are now on display at the J.C. Newman Cigar Company in downtown Tampa, Florida.
